Dr.
Doug Otto, superintendent of schools, announced this school year his
appointment of Lisa Long as special education services
director for Plano Independent School District.
Ms. Long most recently served as principal at Wells Elementary School, where she led the school through a successful major renovation. She served six years as principal at Wells.
Under Ms. Long's leadership, Wells Elementary School was nominated by the U.S. Department of Education as a 2007 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School of Excellence nominee.
Prior to her Wells appointment, Ms. Long served as an assistant principal at Rice Middle School and Skaggs Elementary School.
She previously served as an assistant principal at Forest Creek Elementary School in Round Rock, Texas. Prior to that post, she taught at Forest Creek and Gattis elementary schools in Round Rock. She has also taught in Waco ISD at J.H. Hines Elementary School.
Ms. Long is a 1987 graduate of Plano Senior High School, having attended school in Plano ISD grades 1-12. She earned her bachelor's degree from Baylor University and her master's degree in educational administration from Southwest Texas State University.
As special education director, Ms. Long said that she looks forward to working with students, families and staff across the district.
"Our major focus is to continue to provide an excellent education for our students," she said. "As I have made the transition to this new position, I look forward to many opportunities to serve the community and to work with an outstanding leadership team. I am honored to serve Plano ISD in this new leadership capacity."
In her spare time, she enjoys family activities with children Kylie (11) and Keaton (5).
