PSHS Senior Madison Greer
Crowned Texas' Junior Miss 2009

April 9, 2009

Madison Greer, Plano Senior High School student, captured the title of Texas’ Junior Miss 2009 during the Texas’ Junior Miss Scholarship Program held on March 21 in Frisco. As the winner, she earned cash scholarships and will travel to Mobile, Alabama, on June 25-27 to compete in the 52nd America's Junior Miss (AJM) National Finals for more than $150,000 in cash scholarships and the opportunity to become America's Junior Miss 2009.

According to an AJM announcement, "Like other Junior Miss participants, Madison did not receive a crown, nor was she evaluated on beauty. Instead, AJM evaluates participants in scholastics, interview, talent, self expression and fitness. Young women are recognized with scholarships and medallions that symbolize the program’s emphasis on education."

Regarding Madison's education, her goals are to be a singer, songwriter, actress and writer. To boost her singing career, she made the decision to transfer to Plano Senior High School following six years in a private school setting.

"I wasn’t sure whether I was going to be able to adjust to a whole new schooling system in the middle of high school," she said. "However, the pursuit of my artistry had to come before my tentativeness, and I had heard that Plano had an amazing performing arts program.

"Once I actually started attending Plano Senior High School in my junior year, I realized that not only was the arts program fabulous, but also the school, in its entirety, was also amazing. Plano’s emphasis on diversity, spirit and academic excellence has made it a wonderful environment in which I’ve learned and grown over the past two years."

Madison continued, " I know that this foundation, in part, has made me the confident and well-rounded college-bound young woman that I am today."

Texas' Junior Miss can’t wait to get to Mobile to meet the other contestants. “It will be amazing to forge new relationships with girls from around the nation and to learn from everyone’s experiences,” she said.

Madison says that she entered the Texas Junior Miss Program for the scholarship opportunities and because of the difference the program makes in the lives of young people.

“This particular program jumped out at me because of the values for which it stood: excellence and persistence in being the best person that you can be,” she explains. “This program was established for the very reason of aiding in the advancement of education and this remains a key component of why I have chosen to participate.”

Madison is the daughter of WT (III) Greer & Felicia Greer. Her universities of choice are Harvard & New England Conservatory.

As Texas’ Junior Miss, Madison will participate in the National Be Your Best Self Week, an event in which Junior Misses will share the Be Your Best Self outreach program with Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation. BYBS is the national outreach program of AJM which promotes self esteem and personal excellence among young people. It is estimated that more than 55,000 children and teens will be exposed to the BYBS program during this week long event.
