Becky WussowThe Collin County League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council will honor Plano ISD Human Resource Services Director Becky Wussow as “2008 Educator of the Year” for her outstanding efforts to create a diversified environment in the Plano Independent School District. She will be awarded at the Council’s annual awards banquet to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, at Southfork Hotel.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Ms. Wussow immigrated to the United States with her family in 1962. Currently serving in her 31st year as an educator, Ms. Wussow has spent the past 27 years in Plano ISD. After teaching in Baton Rouge, LA, Ms. Wussow moved to Plano and joined the Clark High School staff where she served as assistant team leader and taught science and Spanish. She also coordinated and taught science and interdisciplinary themes for Plano Junior University and taught talented and gifted students through SMU’s summer program.

Ms. Wussow later served for 12 years as science department chair at Shepton High School. She was appointed as assistant principal for curriculum at Shepton and later held the same position at Vines High School.

For the past decade, she has served in the district’s human resources division as coordinator of secondary staffing, assistant director and, currently, as director of human resource services. She is responsible for recruitment, staffing and appraisals.
