January 22 MLK Tribute Event
to Feature Student Performances

The patriotic theme of “I Am America” will be showcased, as Plano ISD students celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at the school district’s annual MLK Tribute event to be held from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Plano Centre, with a 6:45 p.m. pre-program tribute to military service personnel related to Plano ISD employees and community members. Highlights of the evening will include excerpts from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” to be presented by Plano East speech students, a student chorus and wind ensemble. Elementary students will read their original letters to Dr. King. The event will also include a parade of nations, presentation of Diversity Leadership Awards and a video.
Photos of Military Service Men and Women Sought for MLK Event Video Tribute
The MLK event planning committee, chaired by Dr. Myrtle Hightower, is seeking photos of employees’ family members who are serving or who have served in the United States Military for publication in a special video montage salute to service men and women, which will be shown during pre-program activities at the January 22 event. Employees may submit photos of service personnel (preferably in uniform) by Tuesday, January 6, to the Plano ISD Communications Department, c/o Barbara Monroe, 2700 W. 15th Street, Plano, TX 75075, or e-mail digital photos to Barbara.Monroe@pisd.edu.
