Plano ISD Students Advance
to National Science Symposium

February 17, 2009

Students Edward Strecker, Shepton High School, and Jean Shiao, Plano Senior High School, will advance to the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium to be held in late April in Colorado, following their award-winning oral research presentations delivered at the Texas symposium.

Sponsored by the U.S. Military, the competition has two qualifying levels, oral and poster presentations. In addition to Edward and Jean, the following students also advanced to the final round: Nagasri Shankar (PSHS), Elizabeth Quigley (Clark HS) and Varun Sambhariya (Clark HS).

The second level of competition consists of students presenting their projects through display of their research. The poster session is divided into physical and natural sciences. Plano students earned the following awards.

Poster Session Physical Sciences - 1st place Julie Chang (PSHS) which includes $350 for the campus, and 2nd place - Sachein Sharma (PESH) which includes $200 for the campus; and Natural Sciences Poster Division - 2nd place: Kajarai Bhattacharya (Shepton HS) including $200.00 for school.
