Plano ISD Students Sweep Grand Prizes at Regional Science Fairs

Plano ISD elementary and secondary students swept their respective regional science fair competitions recently, capturing almost all grand prize awards and numerous 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards.

Elementary Fair Participation

Plano ISD students in grades 1-6 had a very successful showing at the North Dallas Regional Science Fair March 11-12 , with more than 103 entries, 60 awards and all six grand prize trophies.

Elementary Grand Prize Winners

Abby Holbert, Jacob Deutsch, Alex Spiride, Lauren Bouvier and Narahari Bharadwaj were among elementary grand prize winners.

Secondary Fair Participation & Advancement

More than 800 Plano ISD students in grades 7-12 entered the Beal Bank Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair on February 28, earning all four grand prize awards in the junior division and three of the four grand prizes in the senior division. In addition, at the senior level, Plano ISD took the grand prize in reserve award.

All senior division grand prize winners earned a place at the International Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held in Reno, Nevada, on May 10-15. More than 1,500 students from across the world will compete in Reno. Also attending will be the grand prize in reserve and a first place team project from Plano ISD.

All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place students - approximately 85 - will travel to the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair March 28-30 in San Antonio.

All Plano ISD secondary schools had students place and win special awards (see awards list above). The students will be recognized at the Dallas Regional Fair lunch banquet to be held on April 16 at Southern Methodist University.
