PSHS Takes Bronze at National WorldQuest Competition in D.C.

A team of students from Plano Senior High School captured third place in the World Affairs Councils of America's national Academic WorldQuest competition held on April 4 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Plano Senior High School teammates Curtis Feronti, Evan Hadfield, Evan Rosenfeld and Shravik Sethi contended with 41 other teams representing councils in 24 states and the District of Columbia. Each member of the team and teacher sponsor Tim Murray won $250 in prize money for their third-place finish.
The team qualified to represent the North Texas region at the national event and received an all-expense-paid trip to the nation's capital by winning first place at the regional Academic WorldQuest on February 21 at SMU in Dallas, which was presented by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth.
At the regional competition, the Plano Senior High team bested
71 other teams from more than 280 North Texas high school students to win the region's fifth annual WorldQuest. Members of the team have been have been involved in their Junior World Affairs Council for three years and have participated in the regional Academic WorldQuest for the past two years.
Academic WorldQuest is a dynamic, one-of-a-kind competition that features teams of four answering questions focused on their knowledge of the world, including its geography, history, current events and international affairs. It is presented by the International Education Initiative (IEI) of the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, which seeks to empower students through education to help them gain a critical understanding of international issues and challenges students to find ways to impact and give back to their local communities and the world.
Founded in 1951, the nonprofit, nonpartisan World Affairs Council offers the public and its more than 3,300 members opportunities to learn firsthand from world leaders, policymakers, ambassadors, journalists and world affairs experts. It presents more than 100 programs annually to enlighten and entertain North Texans.
In addition to impacting more than 100,000 students each year through its International Education Initiative, the Council coordinates visits to North Texas of delegations and leaders from around the globe through the administration of its State Department-sponsored International Visitor Program and the City of Dallas Office of Protocol.
