Sigler Elementary School students are "Learning Today...Leading Tomorrow," according to Principal Sandra Muzquiz, who welcomed students, parents, staff, families and community dignitaries to the school's re-dedication and open house event on March 11.

Rebuilt with funds from Plano ISD's 2004 bond program, Sigler's brand new facility opened in August, 2009, on property adjacent to the original 45-year-old campus. The stunning new building is enjoyed by 450 students, 70 faculty and staff members and hundreds of appreciative neighbors.
Sigler Family members James Sigler and his daughter Allison attended the Sigler re-dedication and open house. They are the grandson and great granddaughter, respectively, of school namesake E.A. Sigler (pictured), who served for 30 years as Plano ISD's first superintendent of schools.
On Thursday, March 11, as the school district's 44 elementary schools celebrated open houses across the district, Sigler Elementary School held a special "house warming" re-dedication ceremony and school tour.
Highlights of the event included a proclamation of "Sigler Elementary School Day" by Plano Mayor Phil Dyer and remarks by School Board President Lloyd "Skip" Jenkins and Deputy Superintendent of Schools Danny Modisette.
Student Elena Martinez was among classmates who helped Principal Muzquiz describe the school's new Giving Garden.
Students joined Ms. Muzquiz on stage to explain their planned contributions to the school's new "Giving Garden."
"We are so grateful for this building that the community has given us," said Principal Muzquiz. "In fact, we have begun a 'Garden of Giving' where every grade level will donate items to 'give back' to the community. We'll conduct a drive every month for various charitable causes to demonstrate our students' commitment to community service."
The Sigler Fourth and Fifth Grade Choir also performed at the re-dedication ceremony, and guests enjoyed classroom tours.

Former Sigler student, now parent, Paula Buis Sandoval proudly showed off her son Adrian's artwork to Sigler Principal Sandy Muzquiz and Sigler 2010 Teacher of the Year Stacey Fawley. Paula recalled attending Sigler herself and singing to namesake E.A. Sigler at the nursing home when she was in second grade.

Julie Cross (in pink), former Sigler student and current parent, and her family members enjoyed the re-dedication event and school open house. Principal Sandy Muzquiz, students, faculty, staff and community held a "Move the Bus" ceremony in August, 2009, to unveil the new school building.

Principal Muzquiz has been a part of the Sigler community for 25 of its 45 years. "Once you've been here, you don't leave," she said. "Students who I taught are now parents who are bringing their children to Sigler."
At the school's 40th anniversary celebration, when Ms. Muzquiz told the community, "Come along, grow old with me. You see, the best is yet to be," she had no idea that the best new facility was yet to be.
"I had no idea then that we'd have this beautiful new building," she said. "It's been so exciting, a new beginning for our staff and students."
What makes the Sigler community special? "A passion for kids," said the proud principal. "There's a sense of doing whatever it takes for every student to succeed at school and in life."
