Theater Students Capture High School One-Act Play Awards

Plano West Hosts Plano ISD's One-Act Play Competition

Several students and theater groups captured awards following Plano ISD's UIL High School One Act Play competition, hosted on November 19 at Plano West Senior High School.

The annual competition allowed the six high schools the opportunity to participate in a friendly competition, show each other their work, receiving a critique from a qualified judge and having their students rewarded for their hard work.

The Plano West Theatre students and directors Grant Goble and Norv Sykes acted as hosts, contest manager and stage manager, respectively. Dr. David Stevens, fine arts director, former Texas Educational Theatre Association president and certified UIL judge was the judge for the day. He watched all six shows, assigned awards, and gave a constructive critique to all the schools.

Carla Ford-Rich, theater arts and speech coordinator extended special thanks to the directors for their dedication to theatre and to the students of Plano ISD. "Performing great quality literature where all students can reap the benefits of performance and learn from qualified critiques and grow as performers and technicians is such a rewarding experience," she said. "Congratulations to all the directors and students for a wonderful day of theatre."
