Plano ISD School Board Resolution
Whereas Collin County Adventure Camp, operated by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, is a much anticipated outdoor learning experience for fifth-graders as an expansion of the Plano Independent School District science and social studies programs; and
Whereas the Plano Independent School District offers this three-day, two-night outdoor school, which correlates directly with fifth grade TEKS for the state of Texas, to all fifth grade students; and
Whereas the collective goals for the Plano Independent School District and the YMCA are synchronized in supporting a well-rounded student in their appreciation for nature and respect for each other; and
Whereas through the partnership shared with the YMCA and Collin County Adventure Camp, Plano ISD is able to provide young learners with a hands-on encounter with nature that cannot be fully replicated in a classroom; and
Whereas Plano ISD understands the inexplicable benefit of shared time among student peers with their teachers in a camp setting, along with the opportunity for parents and adult chaperones to share in this experience as adult learners and as partners in their children's education;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Plano Independent School District Board of Trustees formally salutes and appreciates the willingness of the YMCA and Collin County Adventure Camp to maintain the fifth grade outdoor camp experience as a legacy learning opportunity for our students. The board also encourages students, staff and parents to express their appreciation to the YMCA for its dedication and commitment to Plano Independent School District.
