Encana Oil & Gas Continues Generous Support for Plano ISD Secondary Science Initiatives
September 9, 2011
Several secondary science teachers from around Plano ISD attended training this month as new science fair sponsors. This training was made possible in part by a generous donation from Encana Oil & Gas to the Plano ISD Education Foundation. The gift totaled $31,000, with $12,000 used to supplement funding for Plano ISD’s district science fair for secondary students.

“This donation will help maintain the level of excellence that is associated with the Plano ISD science fair,” said Linda Flack, Plano ISD’s secondary science coordinator. “Without it, we would have had to make some adjustments to fit the budget. Encana’s gift will go toward training, registrations, transportation and other resources associated with the secondary science fair, allowing us to preserve the fair as an enriching experience for our students.”
In addition to supplementing the secondary science fair, Encana is donating $15,000 to the district’s STEM Partners Science Enhancement Initiative, which helps pay for teacher training and curriculum writing for middle school and high school chemistry.
The remaining $31,000 gift will go toward the Plano ISD Education Foundation’s Ski Plano event, as well as other foundation fundraising efforts.
Last year, a $15,000 donation from Encana allowed the Plano ISD Education Foundation to underwrite 900 student scholarships for Collin County Adventure Camp, a program that supports the school district’s science curriculum and teaches valuable lessons about science and our environment to more than 3,000 fifth graders each year.
