School Board Requests Input
for Superintendent Search

Updated February 20, 2012

The Plano Independent School District Board of Trustees is currently searching for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Doug Otto who retired on January 31. As part of the search process, the board has offered several opportunities for community members to provide feedback regarding their thoughts and ideals to assist in developing the superintendent candidate profile.

An e-mail opportunity was made avaialable through February 3, and an additional feedback opportunity was made available via an online survey through February 17. The survey link was publicized on the district website, in employee and community e-newsletters and on the district's facebook page.

The community can follow the superintendent search time line on this district website.

The Board of Trustees also received input from focus groups conducted in January via Thompson & Horton, School Executive Consulting, Inc., which serves as the executive firm for the superintendent search. The guiding questions/prompts used for those focus groups and our public surveys are listed below:

  • What are the strengths of the Plano ISD community?
  • What are challenges in the school district and broader community?
  • Please describe various professional characteristics of an ideal superintendent candidate for Plano ISD.
  • Please describe personal attributes of an ideal superintendent candidate for Plano ISD.
  • Provide any additional input you would like for the Plano ISD Board of Trustees to consider when selecting the superintendent.

The focus groups gathered in January consisted of parents, business leaders, PTA representatives, students, campus administrators, previous trustees, faith leaders and senior citizens. A status report was provided to the trustees at a special called meeting on Thursday, January 26.

All input will be compiled for the consideration by the board of trustees, who have established a goal to select a superintendent by spring (April/May).
