Superintendent Search

As the Plano ISD Board of Trustees prepares to appoint a new superintendent of schools, board members are working together to build a comprehensive candidate profile. The school board is reviewing the district’s existing strategic plan, identifying shared priorities and taking stock of routine programs and schedules as they plan toward the upcoming transition in leadership. The time line below highlights the milestones in the superintendent search as identified by the school board. Dec. 1   School board subcommittee to conduct interviews of superintendent search firms  

The Request for Proposal (RFP) process has concluded, and the school board subcommittee has thoroughly evaluated search firms.

Dec. 7

  School board to select search firm  

Trustees conducted a special called meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, to select the search firm. Trustees unanimously voted to hire Thompson & Horton, "School Executive Consulting, Inc." (This board action is approximately one week ahead of the school board's original schedule.) Jan-Feb   Search firm to conduct focus group sessions and develop candidate profile  

Search firm facilitated focus groups on January 10, 25 and 26, which included district faculty members, students, parents and community members.

Trustees held a special called meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, to hear preliminary findings from the search firm regarding information gathered during focus groups. The agenda can be viewed on BoardBook.

Jan. 31   Dr. Doug Otto's retirement date   Dr. Doug Otto was honored at campuses throughout the month of January and at a reception held on January 20 at Otto Middle School. Dr. Otto retired on January 31, following 17 years as Plano ISD's superintendent of schools. Read more.

Jan 27-Feb 17   Trustees to collect additional community input  

Trustees are requesting additional input from the community regarding thoughts and ideals to assist in developing the superintendent candidate profile. Feedback was collected through February 3 via askPISD@pisd.edu.

To further develop the candidate profile, the community was invited to a public input session on Monday, February 6, at Plano Senior High School.

Feb 27   Plano ISD Council of PTAs presidents' focus groups  

PTA presidents will have an opportunity to provide input on the superintendent candidate profile. February 27, Administration Building, Room 311 at 10:00 a.m. (elementary PTA presidents) and 11:00 a.m. (secondary PTA/PTSA presidents).
