Susan About the Banquet

The banquet kicked off with greetings from School Board President Tammy Richards and a welcome from Superintendent of Schools Richard Matkin.

The program PDF included awards presentations for service pin recipients, retirees and Superintendent's Service Award nominees and winners.

Susan Dantzler was among the presenters and honorees, having served 40 years in Plano schools.

Members of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees assisted Superintendent Richard Matkin in presenting awards to employees throughout the evening, as members of Mr. Matkin's leadership team announced employee awards. Service pin recipients were welcomed to the stage by:

Superintendent's Service Award Winners

Richard Matkin presented 2013 Superintendent's Service Awards to four employees at the 48th Annual Plano ISD Service & Retirement Banquet held on April 11 at Southfork Ranch. Monica Pilcher, Plano ISD Employee Childcare Center II secretary; Neenu Suri, Stinson Elementary School special education teacher assistant; Janet Johnson, Plano West Senior High School curriculum secretary; and Ara Jackson, Armstrong Middle School food service manager, were selected from among 60 fellow nominees for the annual award for going beyond the call of duty in performing their job responsibilities and demonstrating outstanding loyalty to Plano ISD.

Monica Pilcher
Employee Child Care Center II secretary

Monica“Boldly Brilliant,” the theme used to reflect the successes of our school district this year, provides the perfect description for Monica Pilcher according to her colleagues. Monica's ability to listen and to care for children are her trademarks as secretary for Plano ISD’s new Employee Child Care Center II. Monica said that she enjoys her time with the children at the center and loves to share funny stories about them with parents each day. She believes that reaching out to parents and being willing to do the “little things” are how she gains the trust and respect of the families she serves. Monica said that her goal has always been to provide the care and service that she would want for her own child.

Neenu Suri
Stinson Elementary School special education assistant

NeenuNeenu Suri is an employee who is constantly working to expand her knowledge to help students succeed. According to her principal, she is the first person to volunteer to help wherever there is a need. Neenu said that she is “bold” to be working with special education friends who all have beautiful, innocent hearts and who are sometimes challenging, too. Each day, Neenu thinks of ways to make school a better place for her students. She wants to motivate and inspire them about the importance of education. Neenu says that the reason she enjoys her work is “because of the wonderful Stinson family who helps her reach the goal of making an impact on students every day. Please help me congratulate Neenu Suri!

Janet Johnson
Plano West SHS curriculum secretary

Janet JohnsonDescribed by her school principal Kathy King as the “Energizer Bunny,” Janet Johnson comes in early to work, stays late and keeps going and going and going—all due to her outstanding dedication to her school, her colleagues, the students and community.

Janet said that she enjoys organizing Plano West’s Annual Senior Awards Ceremony and seeing the growth in students as they move from shy juniors to proud seniors. She is also delighted to share her technical expertise to design detailed applications for the CREST state counseling award, which the Plano West counselors have won for two consecutive years. Principal King said that, “Jan exemplifies the Blue Nation and is THE supreme example of everything Plano ISD stands for."

Ara Jackson
Armstrong Middle School food service manager

AraAra Jackson is no stranger to earning awards. Since she joined the Plano ISD staff nearly a decade ago, this food service manager has captured a “Rising Star Award,” “Pump Up the Volume Award” and “Squeaky Clean Award.” Just this year, she received an excellent rating on her cafeteria audit. Her principal Steve Ewing, says, “Ara has demonstrated an incredible dedication not only to the cafeteria employees, but also to the staff and students of Armstrong Middle School. She makes sure that NO student is left behind when it comes to breakfast and lunch.” Ara said that her proudest accomplishment as an employee of Plano ISD is being named food service manager at Armstrong Middle School five years ago.
