Thomas Elementary Gifted $1,000 by Plano West Rotary

Plano West Rotary Club recently presented Thomas Elementary with a gift of $1,000 to assist the school in achieving its campus goals to help students achieve success academically, emotionally and socially. Nurses Receive Education Certificates Through Medical Center Program

District nurses were provided an informative day of training at the Medical Center of Plano (MCP) on February 15. The "Taking Care of Kids" theme included topics from common emergencies, standards of nursing in Texas, wellness and student mental health. As a courtesy to the district, MCP provided six certificates of education, which may be applied to the continuing education required for license renewal in Texas. "Thanks to MCP, Plano ISD nurses received free certificates in a great setting," reported Becky Garrett, Plano ISD director of benefits and risk management. PSHS Music Staffer's Arrangement Performed by International Group
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt and arranged by Michael A. Hernandez, Plano Senior High School associate director of bands and percussion coordinator, for steel band was performed by the world renown JU Percussion Group as part of its 2009 play, "Steel Drum Concert" series in May, 2009, at the National Concert Hall in Taipei City and National Taichung Library Chunghsing Concert Hall in Taichung City, Taiwan. The concert featured steel drums and a combination of jazz, reggae and classical music, along with other special music genres and styles.
Plano ISD Publications Earn Awards from State PR Association
The Plano ISD communications department and Plano ISD Education Foundation, under the executive direction of Karla Oliver, captured several awards through the Texas School Public Relations Association's 2009 Star Awards competition. The following district publications were awarded.
