Judge issues findings on school finance system

State District Judge John Dietz issued a final judgment on August 28 declaring the state’s school finance system unconstitutional on several premises. All the school district plaintiff groups succeeded on their claims. Judge Dietz held that the Calhoun County ISD plaintiffs had proven that the current school finance system has evolved into an unconstitutional statewide property tax and fails to sufficiently fund Texas schools at the level required to provide a constitutionally adequate education. Digest demos theme with reality software

To complement this year's theme, Plano ISD is using a mobile app called Aurasma, allowing readers to uncover digital content in printed materials. Through the auras created using this software, the district is giving new meaning to the phrase, "a picture is worth a thousand words." Download the Aurasma app and follow PlanoISDCommunications to reveal "Loud and Clear" messages in our publications throughout the school year. Science teachers named 2014 Tech Titans finalists

Science teachers Dusty Vincer, Plano East Senior High School, and Deanna Shea, Shepton High School, were named Tech Titans of the Future High School Level Finalists by the Metroplex Technology Business Council.

“Only four teachers from the Metroplex were named as finalists for the Tech Titans award," noted Karen Shepherd, secondary science coordinator. "When watching Deanna and Dusty teach and talk about their students, it is evident why they received this honor. Their dedication to their classrooms and extra-curricular organizations they support, such as LASER and Academic Decathlon, is above and beyond."

The Tech Titans of the Future High School Level award recognizes a DFW Metroplex high school (grades 9-12) math or science teacher for development and implementation of an innovative teaching technique or program that inspires student interest regarding further educational and/or career pursuits in science, technology, engineering or math. The nomination requires testimonials from two current or former students.

Dusty Vincer, who teaches IB Biology and Biotechnology at Plano East, submitted the DNA Barcoding program, a global barcoding initiative funded through the National Science Foundation and Coastal Marine Biolabs.
