2015 Annual Report Spotlights Many Ways Students and Staff Members Make Their Marks

Plano ISD's 2015 Annual Report, "Make Your Mark," features a snapshot of the many ways that our 55,000 students and 6,600 employees are making their marks as learners and leaders in the classroom and beyond. The report highlights strategic planning initiatives, Class of 2015 post-secondary readiness, district and state accountability results, school and community engagement, financial/budget data and facilities and technology bond program updates. In addition, the report spotlights initiatives and major donors of the Plano ISD Education Foundation and student and staff awards. Links to district videos are featured throughout the report. read

Staff and community invited to January 21 Tribute to Dr. King

"Making Our Mark" is the theme for Plano ISD's annual tribute honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to be held the evening of Thursday, January 21, in the Williams High School Auditorium, 1717 17th Street in Plano. The community is invited to attend. Pre-program entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. program showcasing student performances and awards presentations. read

January 30 SKI Plano fundraiser to support students and teachers

The Plano ISD Education Foundation invites employees and community members to the 20th annual SKI Plano gala to be held on Saturday, January 30, at a new location, Plano Marriott at Legacy Town Center. Guests will enjoy dinner, a live band, auctions, raffle prizes and more. Proceeds from the casual and fun event will support students and teachers through the foundation's many programs. read

Around the district

The Plano ISD human resources department will host a teacher job fair from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Candidates must complete an online application by April 8 to be admitted to the fair. Elementary and secondary campus staff members will attend the job fair to speak to candidates. read
The Plano Principals' Association is currently conducting its popular sale of Plano ISD logo spirit wear. This sale includes a variety of shirts, vests and jackets with the district logo and select items with the "Make Your Mark" logo. Sales will benefit students and staff through PPA's donations and scholarships. read

A new law went into effect in Texas on January 1 which allows a licensed gun holder to openly carry a firearm in a holster. Security Executive Director Joe Parks prepared this video video, "Texas Open Carry Law: What District Employees Should Know,” focusing on practical aspects of the law that may impact Plano ISD.

PRTA to Host Retirement Seminar

The Plano Retired Teachers Association will host a retirement education seminar for all interested employees on Saturday, February 13, at Sockwell Center. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Read more in PRTA's two-page flyer. PDF

2015 TOTYs
72 Teacher of the Year nominees to be honored at May 12 community gala

Plano ISD's 72 Teacher of the Year nominees have been selected by their campus peers and will be honored at a gala celebration, themed "The World Awaits: Make Your Mark," on Thursday, May 12, at Plano Centre.

Pictured (above) at the 2015 gala are Jennifer Denton and Lilli Wisler, Secondary and Elementary Teachers of the Year, respectively. They will serve on the teacher selection committee and participate in the gala program.

Attending the gala will be educators, elected officials, gala sponsors and PTA leaders. The event will culminate with the announcement of the top "Excellence in Teaching" award winners, including the 2016 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year.

Gala committee members are securing monetary and in-kind gifts for all nominees and award winners. Committee co-chairs are Tamra Sadafsaz, Plano ISD Council of PTAs executive board member, and Jennifer Jamieson, Plano ISD Education Foundation director.
