2010 Health Plan - COBRA Open Enrollment

During the open enrollment period, current COBRA participants will receive enrollment packets at their home address. They may make any benefit changes, which will take effect January 1, 2010.

Coverage for dental, vision, and EAP will be handled through PISD. Forms and payments must be sent to the PISD benefits office.

Coverage for medical will be handled by Blue Cross Blue Shield for TRS-ActiveCare.  Forms and payments for medical coverage must be sent directly to Blue Cross Blue Shield only.

2010 Plan Changes

  • Medical Plan Change to TRS-ActiveCare - If you are currently enrolled in a COBRA medical plan, your coverage will not automatically roll-over to 2010.  If you do not make a TRS-ActiveCare selection, you will not have medical coverage.  Enrollment instructions for the medical plan will be sent to you by Blue Cross Blue Shield/TRS-ActiveCare, and enrollment forms for the medical plan only must be returned directly to them.
  • Dental Plans - New Company, Lower Cost  - Both of the current dental plans will still be available and will provide the same coverage as before, with slightly lower premiums.  However, these plans will be administered by Delta Dental, starting January 1, 2010. The Delta Dental plans will include a PPO network and a Premier network of dentists.  The PPO network will provide a greater price discount on services than the Premier network.  By using these networks, the dentist will file your claims for you, and you will not be balance-billed, which means the dentist will not charge you any amount that exceeds the Delta network approved cost.  You can search the networks of dentists at www.deltadentalins.com.  In addition, both Delta dental plans will provide discounts on non-covered services, such as adult orthodontia and teeth whitening.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - New Company - These services, currently offered by CIGNA, will be provided by Horizon Health, starting January 1, 2010.  The new Horizon EAP will provide the same services that are currently available, including 6 free face-to-face counseling sessions, unlimited telephonic consultation, assistance with finding community resources and work/life services, and legal and financial consultations and services.
