  • 2011-12 Plan Changes:

    • TRS-ActiveCare Medical Plan Changes - TRS has increased the medical plan rates for the new plan year. The new monthly rates are stated in this chart PDF file. There are several other changes to the coverage under these plans. It is extremely important that you read the TRS Enrollment Guide booklet to understand these changes before enrolling. Remember that on ActiveCare 1 and 1-HD, prescriptions are subject to the full plan deductible. Because of the types of changes to the TRS-ActiveCare plans, it is recommended that every employee re-evaluate their plan selection, to compare the level of coverage with the premium amount. • If you are not enrolling in a medical plan for yourself, or for any dependents, it is vital that you use the online enrollment system to officially decline coverage. As of 9/1/11, TRS has made this requirement much more strict. If you do not enroll in medical coverage, and later need to add coverage due to a change in status, you cannot add coverage unless you officially declined coverage for that plan year.
    • Age Limit for Children - On the medical, dental, and vision plans, children may be covered through the end of the month in which they reach age 26. A child whose coverage ended, who was denied coverage, or who was not eligible for coverage because of being over age 25, may be enrolled in the plan as of 9/1/11, if the child still qualifies as an eligible dependent under age 26. You may submit the enrollment request during this enrollment period.
    • Vision Plans - The vision plans will have a small premium reduction, and the coverage for out-of-network services will increase slightly. In-network coverage remains the same.
    • Non-Medical Alternate Plan - This plan will no longer be offered. Current coverage under this plan will end on 8/31/11. All claims must be filed within 12 months from the date of service.
    • Flexible Spending Accounts - Flex account do not automatically renew. You must re-enroll online if you want a flex account for the 2011-12 plan year.
      • When entering your flex account selection online, remember to enter a monthly amount.
      • Please note: As of 9/1/11, employees who elect a flex account will be charged the administrative fee for having that account. The total fee will be $3.75 per month, whether you elect one or both types of accounts. The fee will be payroll-deducted and tax-sheltered.
    • Basic Life Insurance - The current district-paid life insurance of $20,000 included with the medical plans and $50,000 included wih the alternate plan, will no longer be provided. You may choose to purchase optional life insurance at the new reduced rates.
    • Optional Life Insurance - Our life insurance carrier will change from MetLife to SunLife, and premiums will be reduced. A personalized booklet from SunLife will be delivered to you, and will include an enrollment form. The enrollment form is only necessary if you want to apply for additional life insurance. Your current optional life insurance selection will automatically carry-forward without any action on your part.
      • One-Time Opportunity: From 4/25/11 until 8/31/11, every employee has the option to apply for up to $250,000 life insurance, without any health questions! You can also apply for an amount over $250,000, up to $400,000, by answering a health questionnaire. Life insurance applied for at this time through SunLife will not take effect until 9/1/11. After this one-time opportunity is over, any life insurance you request will be subject to the health questionnaire.
    • Disability Insurance - Reminder - Open enrollment is the only time that you may add, change, or cancel the disability insurance.  Proof of good health is not required, but pre-existing condition limitations may apply.  Coverage that you select during this enrollment period will begin on 9/1/11. The disability insurance will cover pregnancy claims only if the coverage begins prior to conception, and benefits will be based on the coverage you had at the time you became pregnant.
