Prescriptions
There is no change to the process for filling prescriptions in 2008. Your pharmacist should continue to use the same information for Walgreens Health Initiatives (WHI), as has been used in past years. There is not a separate prescription card, but you can print a temporary "card" at www.mywhi.com , if needed.

What is the Specialty Pharmacy?
The Specialty Pharmacy focuses on biopharmaceutical therapies for
certain complex, high-risk, and high-cost health conditions. The
goal is to control costs while improving patient outcomes. Some
of the conditions covered through the Specialty Pharmacy are:
| Crohns Disease |
Hemophilia |
Osteoporosis |
| Cystic fibrosis |
Immunoglobulins |
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) |
| Deep vein thrombosis |
Multiple sclerosis |
Rheumatoid arthritis |
| Endometriosis/Prostate cancer |
Osteoarthritis |
Viral hepatitis |
Additional conditions are listed in the Health
Plan Document. Not all medications used to treat these conditions will qualify as Specialty Pharmacy.
How it works: You can obtain a 1-month supply
of your Specialty Pharmacy medication for a standard $80 co-pay.
However, you must fill the prescription at a retail Walgreens chain
store (non-injectable medications may also be filled through the
WHI mail-order facility). The supplies are always limited to 1-month
to avoid stockpiling or wasting these expensive medications. Although
this program limits the locations where you can obtain these medications,
the $80 co-pay will save you money over the regular co-pays on the medical plans.
As part of its goal to improve patient outcomes, the Specialty
Pharmacy Center has clinical pharmacy and nursing staff available
to you. They will address treatment adherence issues and can work
with you one-on-one for confidential counseling regarding your condition
or medication. They will also send you educational materials that
contain valuable information, such as the best tips for managing
medication side-effects and the importance of adhering to therapy.
The Specialty Pharmacy also has its own web site ,
and e-mail srx.info@walgreens.com.
If you have questions about the Specialty Pharmacy or to find out
if your medication qualifies for the Specialty Pharmacy, you can
reach them at 1-888-782-8443. They can assist you with your individual
needs and register you for this program.
