Student Testimonials
The knowledge and skills required for success in the 21st Century are significantly more complex than the knowledge and skills required for success in the early 20th Century.

StudentToday’s students must be skillful and selective consumers of information and information technology, artful and creative producers and contributors, confident self-starters, and reflective leaders conscious of the wider implications of their decisions. Success tomorrow requires that every student accept the challenge of exploring his/her personal best today.

To help students invest in their future, the Plano ISD is proud to provide students with a wide array of advanced academic courses, programs, and competitions that appeal to varied interests, experiences, and educational goals. Students learn and grow through meaningful educational challenge. Participating in one or more advanced academic opportunities allows students to explore existing talents while uncovering new talents.

Advanced academic courses, programs, and opportunities begin in the elementary years and increase in frequency at the secondary level. Elementary teachers deliver academic challenge throughout the year, organize special learning events, and encourage students to participate in competitions and academic fairs. Plano Academic and Creative Education (PACE), the district’s gifted education program, begins serving participants in January of their kindergarten year and continues serving them throughout their secondary experience. Depending upon demonstrated need, students may enter PACE at any grade level.

Secondary opportunities include: honors courses in academic areas, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Advanced Placement (AP) courses, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and a host of annual academic competitions. Depending upon grade level, students may participate in more than one course or program at a time which increases opportunity for personal growth and achievement.

Please use the menu on this page to access more details and links, including contact information, about specific advanced academic opportunities in the Plano ISD, or explore secondary courses and programs by selecting Course Catalogs on this district website.

Advanced academic courses and programs, taken in conjunction with any of our nationally recognized athletic, speech, fine arts, and performing arts programs, offer every Plano student a high-quality, well-rounded education that prepares them for success in the 21st Century.
