23 year teaching experience

Greetings Wolf Pack! My name is Jeanine Gaston.  I was born in Texas but grew up on a Macadamia Nut orchard, high on a hill in San Diego. From our home I had beautiful views which spanned from Mexico to the Coronado Bridge. It was there that I began a deep appreciation of the outdoors. After moving back to Texas I immediately noticed a lack of connectedness between my school and nature. The thick walls and small windows made me feel cut off from the natural world outside. Design differences between my California school and Texas school had a profound effect on me. In college I went on to study architecture and spatial design. Learning how spatial design impacts those who inhabit the structure became my priority. The three dimensional world that surrounds us plays a very important role in our daily lives. It has the ability to hinder or empower us. Plano West demonstrates a variety of designs throughout our campus. In the older buildings such as Building A, you will find classrooms with no windows, artificial lighting, and lower ceilings. Some people may feel cramped or claustrophobic in those spaces. In the newer construction of Building G, natural light fills the open staircases and every room has windows. Three dimensional design is not just about sculptures, it’s about a way of understanding space and how we interact with it. It directly influences our lives.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time traveling with my husband and family, as well as working on making the world easier to navigate. I am proud to be a part of the Wolf Pack and serve students and the community! Go Wolves
