I currently serve Bowman Middle School as the Special Education Department Head, which involves writing and ensuring the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and facilitating ARD (Annual Review Dismissal) meetings for students who receive special education services on our campus. I began working here at Bowman as a special education teacher in 2014. I previously taught Social Skills in the Focus classroom, which is a SEL (Social Emotional Learning) behavior-support classroom.
I graduated from Texas State University in 2004 and then began my teaching career at Renner Middle School, also a school in Plano ISD. I began as a Career Readiness and PALS (Peer Assistance and Leadership Students) teacher in the general education setting. Through PALS, I was blessed with the opportunity to promote peer-helping relationships between the PAL students and students with special needs. This ignited my passion for working with students with disabilities and inspired my transition into teaching special education. My past special education experience includes teaching reading in the resource setting and all subjects in the self-contained setting. I have also served as a Transition Specialist and Team Leader.
