Mrs. Alison Adame
Art Specialist
Experience in Education: My very first job was in art education. I was a summer intern with the Dallas Museum of Art's Go Van Gogh outreach program. In college I was a team leader in an after-school program much like PASAR. I spent a summer lifeguarding and teaching kids how to swim when I was off-stand. I was a camp counselor at an Austin summer camp where the campers went caving and swimming in Barton Springs. It was some time after when I finally deemed myself worthy enough to become an educator. In 2006 I became certified to teach my favorite subject -- Art! I began at a small Pre-K through 3rd grade school named Bonham Elementary in Dallas, which has a special place in my heart. I spent 9 years teaching in Dallas ISD, most recently at Callejo Elementary in Pleasant Grove, which is named after my grandmother's cousin. I took time away from teaching to be a stay-at-home mom. Now I am happy to be back in the classroom, my 10th year as an art educator. This is my first year teaching in Plano ISD and I am incredibly honored to be here; it is truly a dream-come-true. No matter where I teach, the students are my focus and my guiding light. I admire their creativity, their fun spirit, their laughter and their ideas. I love what I do!
Background: I am married to Nathan and we have a large, loving family with four kids. We like to say there's never a dull moment. I was born and raised in Dallas and spent my early years at St. Paul the Apostle in Richardson. I am still best friends with my friends from 2nd grade! The first half of high school was spent at Bishop Lynch and junior and senior years were at J.J. Pearce in Richardson. I went to UT in Austin and fell in love with that city and camping in the Hill Country. I am passionate about honoring and respecting different cultures. I am very proud of my Mexican and Choctaw heritage and love learning about others' beliefs and customs. Art is such a beautiful way to learn about other people.
Interests: There's never enough time to pursue all my interests! I love hanging out with friends and family. Spending time outdoors is a top priority, as in hiking, camping and gardening. I have recently taken up knitting and might be obsessed with yarn. Of course, I love to make things -- sewing, drawing, painting, crafting and cooking. I am usually reading several books at a time. I love the music of Bob Marley. Our family goal is to visit as many state and national parks as possible.
All is well,
Practice kindness,
Heaven is nigh.
