"Salute to Service" Event Set to Honor Hundreds of Employees on April 5, On Line Registration Deadline Is March 22
Honored at the "Salute to Service" event will be nominees (and winners) of the Superintendent's Service Award, retiring employees and employees who will receive service pins for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service to Plano schools. This annual employee banquet will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 at
Southfork Ranch located at
3700 Hogge Road in
Parker, Texas. The on line registration deadline is March 22 and pre-registration is required for all guests, including honorees. Contact your office manager to register.
Photos are requested of service pin recipients 15 years and above, to honor these employees via a video shown at the event. Schools and departments are asked to e-mail photos to Gwendolyn Guthrie, firstname.lastname@example.org in the communications office by April 2. Contact the communications office at 469-752-8150 with any questions you may have about the banquet.
In February, for his consistent commitment to emphasizing international education and global perspectives throughout his teaching career, Plano West Senior High Social Studies Teacher John Scott has been honored as the 2018 International Educator of the Year by the DFW World Affairs Council.
On February 10, Plano ISD hosted the first annual mini-conference targeted to high school computer science teachers. The conference hosted 60 computer science teachers and administrators from 26 North Texas school districts.
In February, the Plano ISD communications team earned nine gold star and three best in category awards for work completed in 2016-17 that not only achieved its purpose with noticeable creativity, craft and skill, but did so in an exceptional way. Additionally, five silver stars and one bronze star were also awarded for Plano ISD videos and publications.Read More.
SKI Plano stands for Supporting Kids In Plano and that's exactly what the Education Foundation does. For over 23 years, SKI Plano has been the largest fundraiser for the Plano ISD Education Foundation. This year's event took place on February 3 and sold out. Funds go towards supporting innovative grants written by Plano ISD teachers through Grants to Educators.Read More.

In a special called meeting on March 6, the Board named Interim Superintendent of Schools Sara Bonser as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent. Ms. Bonser's appointment was welcomed with a standing ovation by the many community leaders, educators and parents in attendance.View video (19 minutes, 34 seconds). The state of Texas requires school districts to name a lone finalist for superintendent, followed by a 21-day waiting period. The school board will approve Ms. Bonser's appointment as superintendent at the special called meeting on March 27.

Board certificates of recognition (presented by Board Vice President David Stolle on the Board's behalf) to Bus Driver Robert Krause (top left photo, in gray sweater) and Bus Assistant Jayshree Panchal (top right photo) were presented in honor of their extreme professionalism and attention to duty during a bus accident in January. Both transportation employees' actions were focused on the safety of the student rider (uninjured ) and staff after a vehicle ran a red light and impacted the bus.
