• Celebrating Our Class of 2020- Watch the Video

Graduation plans for the Class of 2020 can be found on the district's graduation webpage.

Plano ISD Academy High School is happy to announce many ways we will be celebrating the Senior Class of 2020! We are nearing the end of a four year journey together, and we are so proud of you! Even though we aren’t together on campus, we are together in spirit and are excited to celebrate our seniors and their accomplishments!

In the month of May and into the summer, we have several events planned virtually, over social media, and in person (keeping in line with all government guidelines for social distancing). Below is an inclusive list of ways we plan on celebrating our #AcademySeniors2020.

    Public Health Awareness

Plano ISD and Academy High School recognize the ongoing need to practice social distancing and follow interaction guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All senior celebration events are optional and participation by either students or staff is not required

  • Theme Days

Each Friday of May we will have a unique way to promote our seniors through social media. We will have videos and pictures to share through the Plano Academy Twitter page @PlanoAHS each Friday. We encourage you to share your pictures on Twitter and tag @PlanoAHS including the following hashtag so that the district can share these pictures as well: #AcademySeniors2020

  • May 1: "We Love Our Seniors!!"

Be on the lookout for a home delivery of your senior celebration yard sign! Post a picture of you and your sign on Twitter using tagging tag @PlanoAHS and #AcademySeniors2020.

Senior Shout Outs: We are asking parents to tweet shout outs about your seniors. Tweet us @PlanoAHS and use the #AcademySeniors2020 hashtag so that Academy and the district will be able to retweet those shout outs.

Facebook Frames: Facebook users, you can add a frame to your profile picture to celebrate the Plano ISD Academy High School Class of 2020, customized by the district especially for:

  • May 8: ”I am the portrait of a graduate!”

Senior video challenge: Seniors submit videos, emails, or tweets @PlanoAHS #AcademySeniors2020 of how their experience at Academy HS and the staff have prepared them in these four areas:

    • Sense of Self: The Academy graduate will be prepared to take on challenges and problems with enthusiasm and integrity; students will leave the Academy with a strong understanding of their place in the world and the ability to adapt to challenges and change, thereby overcoming adversity.
    • Learners: The Academy graduate is an enterprising risk taker who voraciously innovates solutions.
    • Collaborators: The Academy graduate is an individual who, through interactions, leaves a positive footprint on peers and community. By acknowledging the differences in others and knowing when to lead and when to follow, our students will be productive collaborators.
    • Connected: The Academy graduate realizes, and engages in, the academic, social, and professional communities in which they participate on campus, local, national, and global levels.

Visit the Portrait of a Graduate webpage for more details.

  • May 15: “Doorway to the Future” Senior Door Day

Seniors are encouraged to decorate their front door with their families to celebrate graduating from high school. Take a picture in front of your door with your school Spirit wear or senior shirt and tweet us @PlanoAHS and use the #AcademySeniors2020 hashtag so Academy and the district will be able to retweet those shout outs.

  • May 22: ”Oh, the Places You’ll Go”

Our 2020 Seniors will go on to so many places in the coming year. Take a picture that represents your next steps after high school. Example:  If it's college, take a picture with your college shirt. Tweet these pictures out on Friday, May 22 and tweet us @PlanoAHS and use the #AcademySeniors2020 so Plano and the district will be able to retweet those shout outs.

  • 2020 Graduation Update

    July 9, 2020

Committed to Excellence. Dedicated to Caring. Powered by Learning. Plano ISD Proud.

Plano ISD has been monitoring the state of the COVID-19 pandemic and guidelines from health authorities and state agencies as they relate to large group gatherings and accommodating in-person graduation ceremonies later this summer. On Friday, June 26, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the state would be slowing reopening efforts as a response to the recent surge in positive COVID-19 test results and hospitalizations. In light of the new executive order from Governor Abbott affecting large group gatherings at The Star in Frisco, along with prior Dallas County orders affecting the Eisemann Center’s operations, we are not able to host the in-person graduation ceremonies at these venues.

The district is disappointed to be unable to give our 2020 seniors and families the traditional ceremony they have likely been looking forward to the last 13 years. This is not the outcome that was hoped for, but in light of the current public health crisis, Plano ISD feels it is the right decision for the health and safety of students, families and staff.

Knowing the unpredictability of the virus and health-related closures, Plano ISD decided to host hybrid graduation ceremonies on the campuses to recognize the distinguished accomplishments of our district’s hardworking seniors and provide an opportunity for families to celebrate their successes.

By now, families who were able to attend those events should have received an email from Flash Photography with photo proofs and information on how to redeem the complimentary family photo provided by Plano ISD. If you have not received this communication, please contact Flash Photography at flash@airmail.net

Families will also receive an email from the district with the premiere dates and viewing details for the completed graduation videos. These videos are being created from video captured at each campus event and include remarks from the principal, student speeches, graduates walking the stage and receiving their diploma and the cap toss. Following the premiere, each video will be available for download. Please stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

It is an honor to have been trusted with the education of the students from the Class of 2020. We know this year has been challenging and included many disappointments, but the student’s resilience has been inspiring as they faced adversity and kept moving forward. They should feel immense pride for all of their hard-earned achievements. Plano ISD wishes graduates all the best in health and success in their bright futures.
