On Monday, June 10, the Plano ISD Board of Trustees approved recommendations presented by the Long Range Facility Planning Advisory Committee. The approved recommendations include the closure of Davis and Forman Elementary Schools and Armstrong and Carpenter Middle Schools. Boundary changes associated with the closures were also approved.
As outlined in the plan, these changes will take effect for the 2025-2026 school year. Fentanyl Awareness
As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our community informed and safe, we feel it is crucial to address a matter of growing concern—the presence of fentanyl and its potential impact on our youth.
Fentanyl pills are being mass-produced and falsely marketed as legitimate prescription pills that look just like prescription Xanax (bars), Percocet (perk), opioids (painkillers) like Vicodin and Oxycodone (oxy), and stimulants like Adderall (addy). Fake pills are easy to purchase and often sold on social media and e-commerce platforms, making them available to anyone with a smartphone, including minors.
We write to you to raise awareness about the potential dangers associated with fentanyl and to encourage open communication within families. It is essential that we work together to educate our children about the risks and consequences associated with the misuse of substances.
Here are some key points to consider and discuss with your children:
- Understanding Fentanyl: Explain that fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid used for severe pain management, often prescribed by healthcare professionals in specific medical situations.
- Education on Prescription Medications: Emphasize that medications should only be taken when prescribed by a trusted healthcare provider for a legitimate medical reason. Educate your child about the importance of not sharing medications with others and never taking pills from friends or classmates.
- Recognizing Medications: Teach your child how to recognize their own prescribed medications by appearance, shape, and color. This helps them avoid confusion or accidental ingestion of the wrong medication.
- Risk of Misuse: Discuss the risks associated with opioid misuse, emphasizing the potential for serious health consequences and the importance of seeking help if they ever find themselves in a challenging situation.
- School and Community Support: Support and participate in school and community initiatives that educate both parents and students on substance abuse prevention, including the dangers of fentanyl.
- Seeking Help: Make sure your child knows where to turn for help, whether it's a teacher, school counselor, or a trusted adult. Reinforce the importance of reaching out for support when needed.
By fostering open and honest conversations with our children, we can equip them with the knowledge and awareness necessary to make informed decisions about their health. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your school counselor. Additional information can be found on the Plano ISD Counseling Services webpage or the Texas Health and Human Services webpage.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and let us continue working together to keep our community safe and healthy.

- Consulting their healthcare providers when flu-like symptoms begin. Symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
- Keeping children home when ill.
Students help by:
- Washing their hands for 20 seconds with soap and water before and after eating, after sneezing or coughing into their hands, after using the restroom, after playing outdoors and any other times that their hands are dirty.
- Using tissues when sneezing and coughing into their sleeves.

The district proposed an academic calendar based on work from the 2024-25 calendar that was approved on November 28, 2023. January 15, 2024 | School Closure for Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024
January 15, 2024
School Closure for Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024
Due to the extreme cold temperatures, wind chill advisory, hard freeze warning and expected refreeze of roads, parking lots and walkways overnight, Plano ISD schools and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Extreme early morning temperatures and wind chills will be dangerous for students walking to school, bicycling or waiting at bus stops. This decision is being made with the utmost concern for the safety and well-being of our students and staff throughout the 100 square miles of Plano ISD, as well as neighboring communities from which our staff members commute.
Several factors are taken into consideration when making decisions about school operations during weather concerns. In addition to safe travel conditions, the district must consider the safety and functionality of school buildings, resources and utilities during extreme weather events. Additionally, because the district operates on a tiered busing system, delaying the start of school is not a feasible option.
A decision regarding school operations for Wednesday, January 17, will be made after evaluating facility and travel conditions on Tuesday evening.
We encourage our Plano ISD community to take the necessary precautions to stay safe and warm during this period of extreme cold. Please continue to monitor school district communications channels for any updates or new information regarding the weather and school operations:
- The Plano ISD website: Weather-related closures and updates will be posted in real time on the Plano ISD home page as well as campus websites.
- The Plano ISD Mobile App: Download the mobile app and log in to receive specific messages related to your school. However, weather closures will be sent to all app users, even if you are not logged in to the system.
- School Messenger (e-mail, telephone and text messages): The district will provide updated information as needed to all parent and emergency contact telephone numbers and email addresses in the system.
- Social media – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (X): Weather-related closures will be posted immediately to Plano ISD’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
- Local news media: Plano ISD will make information available to local television and radio stations and will enlist their assistance in communicating with our audiences.
