Legislative Priorities

89TH Session Legislative Priorities

We believe all entities receiving public dollars for education must be held to the same rigorous financial and academic transparency and accountability standards.

1

Increase per-student funding for public schools to meet the needs of students and index it to inflation

  • Increase pay for all teachers
  • Reduce property tax rates
  • Add campus support staff to reduce burdens on teachers
  •  Cover inflationary increases to fuel, utilities, insurance and more
  • Reduce recapture
  • Increase opportunities for enrichment programs for all students
  • Increase classroom support for student academic and behavioral needs

2

Fully fund programs and requirements enacted by the state legislature.

  • Fully fund required armed security officers and physical security measures for each campus
  • Fully fund required full-day PreK programs
  • Fully fund provision of special education services
  • Fully fund schools based on enrollment instead of attendance

3

Provide meaningful assessment and accountability that holistically measures school performance.

  • Recognize the expectations of local communities by including measures beyond performance on state assessments
  • Accurately measure student growth in required knowledge and skills for each subject
  • Account for changing student needs and time spent within a school district prior to assessment
  • Align accepted industry-based certifications with regional workforce needs
  • Provide consistency and transparency for schools and communities
