School Library Advisory Committee (SLAC)

The School Library Advisory Committee (SLAC) is new for 2025-2026 and is established in accordance with Senate Bill 13 and policy EFB(LOCAL). This committee plays a vital role in shaping library policies and ensuring transparency and community engagement in the development of district library collections. It will provide recommendations for library purchases and facilitate reconsideration committees for challenged library materials. SLAC meets at least two times a year.

Goals for 2025 - 2026

  1. Ensure all recommendations regarding the selection, review, or reconsideration of library materials are consistent with district policies, state law, and the values of our local community. 
  2. Review proposed library materials and provide guidance on their suitability for each grade level, supporting the educational and developmental needs of students. 
  3. Participate in reviewing proposed acquisitions and in reconsideration or recommending the removal of materials to uphold transparency, fairness, and established procedures.
  4. Comply with public meeting requirements by recording and publishing meeting agendas and council actions for the community. 

Meetings for 2025 - 2026 

The council will meet from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on the following dates.

In compliance with state law and to keep the process transparent, all library books, whether donated or requested for purchase, must be approved by the Plano ISD School Board. Before each board meeting,  the proposed titles are posted here for public review for at least 30 days. 

Parents, students, and/or community members are welcome to ask questions or provide feedback on materials list. If you would like to provide feedback on a title, please email the Director of Learning Media Services with the book's title, author, and your specific feedback. All comments received within this 30 day time period will be reviewed and considered prior to finalizing the purchase. 

Note: All ISBN formats (paperback, hardcover, ebook, audiobook, etc.) will be applied for each individual title.
