JROTC in Plano ISD
What is Army JROTC?
The Army JROTC program is a nationally recognized leadership development program that prepares students for success in school, college, careers, and life. Through a focus on character, leadership, academic achievement, wellness, teamwork, and service, cadets develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Army JROTC is a partnership between the U.S. Army and participating schools, designed to complement—not replace—the traditional educational experience. Through hands-on learning, STEM opportunities, community service, and leadership experiences, students build confidence, strengthen communication and problem-solving skills, and learn the value of collaboration, responsibility, and civic engagement.
The program creates a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to grow as a leader, contribute to their school and community, and graduate prepared for college, military service, or meaningful careers.

No Military Obligation
One of the most common questions families ask is whether enrolling in JROTC requires a student to join the military. The answer is no.
Participation in Army JROTC does not create any military obligation or commitment to serve in any branch of the Armed Forces. Students who enroll in JROTC are participating in a leadership development program offered as part of their high school educational experience.
JROTC is not a military recruiting program. Instead, its mission is to develop confident, capable young leaders by teaching character, citizenship, leadership, teamwork, communication, and personal responsibility. The program prepares students for success in whatever path they choose after graduation.
Whether a cadet plans to attend college, enter the workforce, pursue a technical or trade career, or choose military service, JROTC provides valuable life skills that support success in any future endeavor. Our goal is to help students become responsible citizens, effective leaders, and engaged members of their communities.
