Student Advisory AI Discussion - April 2024
Using AI Responsibly
✨ AI Supports—It Doesn’t Replace Thinking: Use AI as a springboard for ideas, not as the finished product.
✨ Check for Accuracy and Bias: AI content may contain errors or unintentional bias, so review carefully before using.
✨ Prioritize Privacy: Avoid sharing personal information such as names, addresses, or other sensitive details.
PISD Digital Citizenship website - Being committed to digital citizenship keeps students inclusive, informed, engaged, balanced, and alert about their use of digital tools.
Understanding Expectations for using AI
Students, when using AI stick to "TAPE":
- Transparency: Be open and honest about when and how GenAI informed your work by using citations, appendices, screenshots, etc.
- Accuracy: Carefully examine the work that GenAI produces and verify its output with other sources. It may "hallucinate" with wrong info, display bias, or have inaccurate sources in its training.
- Process (mindfulness): Document your thinking processes when working on learning tasks. This can help to share how you arrived at your thinking and avoid the appearance of plagiarism.
- Expectations: Follow your teacher's expectations when using GenAI for generation of or feedback on formatting, visuals, language, or ideas.
