How to Make a Shortened URL

Step 1: How to get the URL that needs to be shortened

For a Website

1. Copy the URL from the address bar that you want to shorten. 
2. Go to Step 2 below

For a Google Doc

1. Set sharing to “anyone with the link” and either “can edit” or “can view” (depending on your preference)
2. Copy the “shareable link”
3. Go to Step 2 below

For a Google Form

1. After creating your form, click Publish and copy the "responder link".  
2. Go to Step 2 below

Step 2: How to paste URL and get the new shortened URL

For TinyURL:

1. Go to tinyurl.com. 
2. Paste the long URL and click the "Make TinyURL!" button. 
3. The shortened URL will appear. You can now copy and paste it where you need it. 

For Bit.ly:

1. Go to https://bitly.com.
2. Click Create New (top left corner of page) > Link
3. In the field titled Destination, paste the link you want to shorten.  
4. Under the Ways to Share section, in the Custom Back-half Field, enter the custom alias (the end of the URL that will be easy for users to enter - for example, signin25 or pisdnotes). Note: no spaces allowed in this field.  
5. Click Create button and you will have a much friendlier URL to say aloud, write on the board, or send in an email.

 For Tiny.cc:

1. Go to tiny.cc. 
2. Optional Short Link Ending: enter the custom alias (the end of the URL that will be easy for users to enter - for example, signin25 or pisdnotes). Note: no spaces allowed in this field.  
3. Paste the long URL and click the "Shorten" button. 
4. The shortened URL will appear. You can now copy and paste it where you need it.
