Do I have to use the Duo Mobile app?
If your mobile device doesn't support the Duo Mobile app or you want an alternative method, you can choose a 'Phone Number - Get a text message' option.
Please know that Duo Mobile is recommended and it offers the best security. Here are the benefits you will be getting from the Duo Mobile app.
- It allows you to take advantage of Duo Push notifications. With Duo Push notification, you can Deny or Allow access with a single click. It is easy and hassle-free.
- If you don't have cellular coverage, you can receive Duo Push notifications as long as the mobile device is connected to WiFi with Internet Access.
- Duo Mobile app offers a passcode option. The passcode is valid for two-step authentication even if the mobile device is not connected to the Internet.
My campus doesn’t have a good cellular reception. Will Duo Security work?
There are a couple of options.
-
(Recommended) Use the Duo Mobile app, which offers Duo Push notifications. With Duo Push notification, a user can Deny or Allow access with a single click. In the absence of a cell phone reception/coverage, the user can still receive Push notifications as long as the mobile device is connected to WiFi.
If there is no cell phone coverage nor WiFi, a passcode (six-digit code) from the Duo Mobile app can be used for two-step authentication.
-
If a user chooses the text messaging option instead of the Duo Mobile app, then users should be able to use WiFi calling option for phone calls and text messaging. However, we won’t be able to say for sure if all mobile phones and all mobile carriers might offer this feature.
