Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. April Platt
I have wanted to teach since I was 8, and began practicing on my stuffed animals and friends alike. Now, as an actual teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach Social Studies to a variety of learners and learning styles. While my degree from the University of North Texas is in History, I have a Social Studies composite certification. This means I have been able to teach Economics, US History, and American Studies. Despite History being my first love, Economics pulls a close second. I have written curriculum for special-needs students learning Economics, written Economics curriculum for online learners, was awarded Beginning Teacher of the Year 2010-2011 and Experienced Teacher of the Year in 2014-2015. This year, I am launching a course that combines Government, Economics, and Humanities. As I prepare to teach any class, I get excited about the fun I am about to have. I only hope to instill that same excitement in my students. Engaging students in the curriculum and allowing them to explore their abilities is why I will always work so hard as a teacher. It is also why I do it with a smile on my face.
