Degrees and Certifications:

Carter Walsh

Mr. Walsh is returning for his second year as a member of the Rice Raven Band Staff. Mr. Walsh teaches beginning percussion, beginning tuba/euphonium, beginning clarinet, Concert Maroon Band and Concert Navy Band. 

A graduate of Wylie High School, Mr. Walsh distinguished himself as a young performer, receiving the Woody Herman Jazz Award as well as the Outstanding Percussion Member Award.  Following high school, Mr. Walsh attended Texas A&M University–Commerce, where he was the principal percussionist in the Wind Ensemble and the top Percussion Ensemble.  Highlights of his college experience included the opportunity to perform at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2015, 2016 and 2017, performing with the Wind Ensemble in Austria, and performing as a featured marimba soloist in Japan.  Mr. Walsh graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University–Commerce, earning a Bachelor of Music Education with percussion emphasis.

Mr. Walsh is actively involved in Drum Corps International.  He was a member of the 2016 Boston Crusaders, playing marimba in the Front Ensemble. He is currently in his second year of being on staff for Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps out of Austin, TX.  Mr. Walsh is also an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and Percussive Arts Society.

Outside of school, Mr. Walsh loves spending time with his wife, Andrea, and their dog, Rocket. His hobbies include exercising, playing disc golf, video games and socializing with friends and family.
