The IB World School at Plano East is a challenging, pre-university course of study that aims to encourage students to be knowledgeable and inquiring, but also caring and compassionate. There is a strong emphasis on encouraging students to develop intercultural understanding, open-mindedness and the attitudes necessary for them to respect and evaluate a range of points of view. The program encourages a concurrent study of a broad range of academic areas. It is this comprehensive range that makes for a demanding program designed to prepare students effectively for university entrance.

 Plano ISD’s locally developed 9th and 10th grade International Honors program prepares students for the expectations of the 11th and 12th grade IB Diploma program. In the 11th and 12th grades, students enroll in courses in six academic areas, participate in service learning, write an extended essay and take a Theory of Knowledge course which examines the “ways of knowing.” Not only do IB students have the opportunity to earn college credit, they are also able to navigate, engage and contribute on a national or international stage.
