Julia Patterson
I am a wife, mom, teacher, and coach. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Luke, for almost 17 years and have a 9-year-old son, Landry and 8-year-old daughter, Mara. My passion and thirst for life is fed by my family, animals (especially horses), and travel. I have 2 horses, Tuffy and Rigby, 2 dogs, Pegs and Arya, and 5 chickens: June Cleaver, Bach, Poblano, Queeny, and Cinnamon. My love for horses began with my lifelong journey of becoming an instructor, coach, and teacher. After graduating from Texas Woman's University, and earning my certification in Therapeutic Horseback Riding, I taught at Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship. I recognize some of my past riders here at the Solomon Center are all grown up! To be a good rider and instructor, you must have patience, stay humble, and have a sense of humor. I feel I carry these traits into my everyday life. Prior to coming to the Solomon Center, I spent the last 9 years as a Supported Employment Consultant for LaunchAbility (who merged with My Possiblilites in 2018), providing employment services for adults with disabilities in the DFW area. In addition to providing employment services, I also led the LaunchAbility Academy. We worked with Texas Workforce and school districts like Plano ISD providing On-The-Job Training Work Experience for 18+ SPED students, fully integrated with our host businesses such as Toyota, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and TopGolf. I hope my experience outside the classroom will provide education, resources and reassurance to students and families moving to the next stage in life. I firmly believe in preparing for #lifereadyadults and look forward to working with our students, staff, and families.
