Ms. Nicole Brown

Nicole Brown grew up playing cello in her school orchestra in Storm Lake, Iowa.  She studied Music Education and earned her BA in Music from the University of Central Florida, and additionally has Suzuki Cello certification from the Atlanta Suzuki Institute. Ms. Brown has taught in the DFW area for over 22 years, and currently is the Director of Orchestras at Armstrong Middle School in Plano, TX.

Ms. Brown is an active member of TMEA, TODA, ASTA, and TMAA.  She was the winner of the 2005 TexasASTA "Young String Teacher of the Year" award, and has written and presented for the Texas Orchestra Directors Association conference.  She is a frequent UIL Orchestra judge and Region Orchestra clinician. Though her musical roots run deep in Texas, Ms. Brown's musical adventures have taken her around the globe as she was a founding director of the Salmon School of Arts summer music camp in Wuhan, China. In August 2022, Ms. Brown was awarded the Texas Orchestra Director Association's "Director of Distinction" at their annual conference in San Antonio. 

When Ms. Brown is not teaching or playing her cello, she enjoys reading, painting, biking, playing roller derby, and having lazy weekends with her partner Paul and their pit bulls Maggie and Louie.
