Degrees and Certifications:
Miss Kate Cowan
Hello Razorbacks! I grew up in Denton, TX, where I graduated from Guyer High School in 2018. I went to college at UT and graduated in Spring 2022 with a Bachelor's in Visual Arts Studies along with my art teacher's certification. I am so excited to be back in the Dallas area, especially here in Plano, for my first year of teaching. I have a four-year-old pitbull that I rescued a few years ago, and she is basically my child.
Art is my sole passion in life. As an artist myself, I have experienced how it can transform and enhance lives in many ways. The art classroom should be a safe space where students can express themselves and fully be who they are. Humans come with complex minds, and we all need an outlet to share our thoughts. Middle school is a big time in the lives of young people, and I love seeing the raw ideas and creations that are made by them in the art classroom. I advise all of my young artists to just create. Create when they can, as long as they can, however they can without being afraid of making mistakes.
I teach at Robinson MS in the mornings and Frankford MS in the afternoon this school year.
In my art classroom, we will be learning a variety of mediums in order for students to find their niche. We will also study and analyze many diverse, modern artists along with the classic masters.
I am beyond excited for this school year and cannot wait to see all the art my young artists have yet to make!
"There is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist, and the world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open." -Martha Graham
