Welcome to my page! This is my 3rd year traveling between Clark High School and Plano Senior High School. I am the only Deaf teacher at Clark HS but not the only Deaf at PSHS campus! My native first language is ASL and my second language is English. I graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1990 and pursued my career in the hotel industry field. After 20 years, I decided to change my career to become an American Sign Language teacher. It has always been my passion to teach sign language and tell stories about our history. I was hired to teach at a private school for two years before I joined PISD in 2010. This is my 10th year with PISD and I have been in Education for 12 years!
During the summer when not teaching, I am a co-chairperson for the Texas ASL educators. This year we were not able to host the ASL Teacher workshop due to COVID-19. It was a hard decision but we knew it was best for everyone. We became creative and decided to post Tuesday Tidbits via our Facebook group so that the ASL teachers can still get resources for what they want to learn. Please visit Texas ASL Educators website, www.texasasleducators.com if you are interested. I also had the opportunity to participate in the ASL workshop online that was offered by the Texas School for the Deaf. I spent many hours of watching videos. They did phenomenal job for hosting their first vitural workshop.
I am beyond excited to incorporate what I learned over the summer and looking forward to a great year! Thank you for allowing me to teach your child the beautiful language and the culture.
