Ms. Joy Williams
I began working at Bowman Middle School as a special education teacher in 2014. I currently teach social skills in the behavior support room, also known as Focus. The Focus Room is a place where students can go for emotional support and to learn coping strategies.
I graduated from Texas State University in 2004 and then began my teaching career at Renner Middle School, also a school in Plano ISD. I began as a Skills for Living and PALS (Peer Assistance and Leadership Students) teacher in the general education setting. Through PALS, I was blessed with the opportunity to facilitate peer-helping relationships between the PAL students and students with special needs. This ignited my passion for working with students with special needs and inspired my transition into teaching special education. My past special education experience includes teaching all subjects in the self-contained setting, reading in the resource setting, and serving as transition specialist and special education department head.
Social Skills are taught on a specific needs basis and tailored to the students' current needs and circumstances throughout the day.
Skills are taught both individually and within the student's normal environment (in-class).
