Mrs. Melissa Young

Melissa Roth Young is a graduate of Baylor University (BME ’93) and UNT (MME ’02), and she is in her 29th year of teaching. For the past 16 years she has taught and directed middle school choirs in Richardson and Plano.  Choirs under her direction have consistently received Sweepstakes at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest, as well as Best in Class/Grand Champion distinctions at local choral festivals. Additionally, her students are well represented in the All-Region Choir and TCDA Honor Choirs each year.  Mrs. Young was selected as the Teacher of the Year nominee for the Richardson North Junior High campus 2011-12. She has served in leadership for regional, state and national music organizations. Before teaching middle school choirs, Melissa taught at the elementary level and community children’s choirs in Texas and Oregon. This year Mrs. Young is in her second year as co-director Plano Children's Chorale.  Mrs. Young is a published choral composer and lives with her family in Richardson, TX
