Mrs. Joy Blasius

Academic Specialist, Dyslexia Therapist

Years in Education:

This will be my 18th year in education. I began as a social studies and reading teacher at a private school in the suburbs of Chicago, IL and have had an extraordinary adventure in the field of education since! I've taught high school U.S. History and World History in Chicago, dance (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop) to all ages for over 25 years, and been a reading specialist as well. I moved to Texas with my family in 2014 where I was a reading specialist at Carpenter Middle School for one year and Instructional Coach for four years. This is my first year at Hendrick and my first year as Academic Specialist and Dyslexia Therapist and so far I am enjoying it immensly.

Family:

I am married to a really great guy, and we have two amazing kids and a cat that looks like Garfield. My oldest - a daughter, is a junior at Purdue University majoring in Enviornmental Biology and my youngest - a son, is a freshman at Purdue University majoring in Robotics Engineering.

Interests/Hobbies:

Reading, speed walking (I'm fast!), eating Chicago deep-dish pizza when I can find it here in Texas, swimming, spending time with my family.

Interesting Fact:

When I was a junior in high school, I spent three weeks in Europe taking dance classes and performing with my dance company. I am a twin!
