Mrs. Catherine DeShaw
Hello! I am entering my twelth year of teaching and am happy to be teaching AVID 7, AVID 8, ELA 6, and English 8 this year. I taught my first three years in Clear Creek ISD in Houston area, and this is my ninth year in Plano ISD and at Schimelpfenig Middle School. I am also the AVID Coordinator, a core team member of our grit committe, and a member of the Schools to Watch committee. I love our school and I love middle school students! I feel that I am able to bring out the best in each of my students!
I grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station with a B.A. in English with an emphasis in education. I speak some spanish and love any opportunity to practice the language and keep up my skills. My husband and I live in Dallas and he is is an Optometrist in Garland. My favorite activities are gardening, organization and house projects, fitness, traveling, and spending time with my friends and family.
1st period: AVID 8 (G212)
2nd period: AVID 8 (G212)
3rd period: AVID 7 (G212)
4th period: English 8 (G212)

6th period: ELA 6 Block (D121)
7th period: ELA 6 Block (D121)
All of my students (AVID, English 8, ELA 6) are welcome anytime in the morning or after school when I am available.
Since I teach multiple subjects, I prefer students let me know ahead of time when they plan to come early or stay late so that I can make sure to have materials ready, etc., but they are all welcome to just show up anytime as needed.
I'm here to help them. :)
I have 2 classrooms this year; I teach 1st-4th upstairs in G212 and 6th-7th periods downstairs in D121. I will be upstairs in G212 for all morning tutorial sessions because that is where I start my day and my main room. After school, I may be in D121 or G212, depending.
Available mornings: 8:00-8:20 in G212
Available afternoons: 3:30-4:00 in D121 or G212
