Mrs. Terry Smith
I am proud to be a native Texan and Planonian. Growing up in Plano ISD made being a teacher in the district a dream come true. My passion is seeing students reach their full potential. I believe every student can learn and grow both academically and socially. That growth is supported by strong instruction, early intervention, and positive relationships. Teaching is my calling. I can't imagine doing anything else.
My teaching career began at Mendenhall Elementary under the principalship of Martha Hunt, my former fifth grade teacher at Mendenhall. I went on to open Centennial Elementary as second grade team leader. As Hedgecoxe Elementary's second grade team leader, I began writing district math curriculum and training teachers in Cognitively Guided Instruction. Memorial Elementary was home for two years where I served as the math specialist before moving to Miller Elementary to fill the role of literacy specialist. In 2014, I completed the dyslexia therapist training program at The Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas. After twenty-two years in the elementary setting, I made the move to middle school. I currently spend my mornings at Otto Middle School and my afternoons at Murphy Middle School as the dyslexia teacher. Providing instruction to students with dyslexia is one of the most rewarding experiences in my career.
My husband and I enjoy spending time with family and friends, taking road trips in our car or on our motorcycle, singing karaoke, shopping at flea markets, and reading good books. We look forward to the spring and fall when we can get away and do some camping. Volunteering is one of our favorite experiences, it is always so rewarding.
Reading is a necessary life skill that can open doors to imaginary and real life adventures.
