My Teaching Philosophy…

When a student comes to a new school for the first time, it is a challenge, but imagine the same scenario while speaking little or no English. As the ESL Specialist at Skaggs Elementary, it is my mission to make the new ESL students feel at ease while instilling the love for learning English in all of the students I teach. I believe every child should actively participate in class in order to gain the best understanding of the material.  While teaching students, I try to provide opportunities for each student to participate in the four domains of English:  listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I use an assortment of teaching strategies that provide multi-sensory instruction. Therefore, don't be surprised if you start hearing some educational songs and chants that continue outside of the classroom. I am a strong believer that learning happens when students are engaged and having fun.

My Educational Background…

My teaching career in Plano ISD began in 2003. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University, and a Teaching Certification with a Specialization in Reading from the University of Houston. I hold the following teaching certifications:  Generalist (EC-6), Secondary Reading (6-12), English as a Second Language (EC-6), Elementary Reading (1-8), and Elementary Self-Contained (1-8). I have also completed the PISD Dyslexia Training Program which consists of 200 hours of instructional time and 10 demonstration Take Flight Lessons. While my passion is teaching ESL, I have also held other positions which include 3rd and 5th grade classroom, 9th thru 11th grade reading, and Instructional Specialist.

My Interests...

I enjoy learning about other cultures. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Japanese School of Dallas, I was able to participate in the IEJ (International Educators to Japan) 2018. That opportunity was the best educational experience I have ever received. I also love gardening and cooking for my family (my husband made me say that).

I hope I will provide your children the best educational experience they can possibly have while at Skaggs Elementary.  I'm thankful to be a part of such an amazing school.
