Ms. Julie Thrift
My name is Julie Thrift and I wouldn't trade being a part of the Stinson family and community for anything! I earned a Bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University and received certifications in both Special Education and Regular Education. I taught Special Education for 3 years before teaching third grade, which I taught for 8 years. I loved teaching and also felt called to counseling, so I worked to earn a Master's degree in School Counseling from Amberton University. I have the best job in the world because I get to do what I love - work with children and families!
I work diligently to advocate for each Stinson Star and support them in a variety of ways. My vision is to develop the mind, heart and character of each student and one way I do this is through guidance lessons given every other week. I go into the classrooms and we discuss things like problem-solving, self-regulation, friendship, social skills, bully prevention, responsibility, goal-setting, safety and drug awareness, college/career/military readiness (CCMR) and more. Lessons are delivered in a variety of ways and can include group work, partner work, bibliotherapy, technology, role-playing and/or other various activities. I am here with a listening ear for individual students who need support and encouragement. Individual and group sessions can be provided on a referral basis from teachers, parents or the students themselves. I coordinate Kindness & Safety Patrol for 4th and 5th grade students and help them to develop leadership skills.
I adore working with students, staff and parents at Stinson and look forward to many more years of service.
Please feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do for you!
