Mrs. Carmen Casamayor-Ryan
Hello, everyone! I am Carmen Casamayor-Ryan and I am so pleased to be serving at Forman. I was born in Colombia and moved to Texas when I was seven. Second grade is a frightful place when you are the only non-English speaking child in the class. It seems surreal to recollect a time when I did not speak English. Because of my personal experiences, I empathize with all students who are learning English as their second language.
After high school, I attended the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Houston, where I majored in French and International Studies.
After college, I worked in Mexico for a short time and then went to Japan for 2 years to teach ESL and study the culture and language. It was here that I fell in love with teaching and adolescent students. When I returned to Houston, I enrolled at the University of Houston to study Bilingual Education. I taught in Houston for five years, the first of which I met a mentor who transformed my life.
In 1999, I came to the Dallas area, shortly after having married. I have been a teacher, program specialist, assistant principal, principal and central programs director in Houston, Richardson and Dallas, prior to coming to Plano. Here, I find my daily inspiration in the hard work of our teachers and paraprofessionals and the families whose lives we affect through our work.
As a mom and educator, I have been afforded many life lessons, not the least of which is that time flies so, seize every moment and treasure each stage of your children’s development as they will be men and women before you know it.
