Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching is rooted in the belief that every child is capable of learning, growing, and achieving success when provided with a supportive, engaging, and structured environment. I believe education should nurture not only academic skills but also confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. As a teacher, my role is to guide, encourage, and challenge students while meeting them where they are and helping them reach their fullest potential.

I believe students learn best when they feel safe, valued, and respected. Creating a positive classroom community is essential for meaningful learning to occur. I strive to build strong relationships with my students by listening to their ideas, honoring their backgrounds, and celebrating their efforts. When students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes, they are more willing to engage in learning and persevere through challenges.

Instruction should be purposeful, engaging, and accessible to all learners. I believe in using a variety of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs, including hands-on activities, collaborative learning, technology integration, and explicit instruction. Differentiation is a key component of my teaching practice, as students learn in different ways and at different paces. By using ongoing assessment and observation, I adjust my instruction to support individual growth and ensure all students can access the curriculum.

I also believe that learning should be relevant and connected to the real world. When students see how their learning applies beyond the classroom, they are more motivated and invested. I encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and meaningful discussions that allow students to express their ideas and learn from one another. Teaching students how to think is just as important as teaching them what to think.

Classroom structure and high expectations play a vital role in student success. I believe in setting clear expectations, routines, and goals while maintaining a warm and encouraging atmosphere. By holding students accountable and providing constructive feedback, I help them develop responsibility, independence, and a growth mindset.

Finally, I believe teaching is a lifelong learning process. I am committed to reflecting on my practice, seeking feedback, and continuously growing as an educator. By modeling a love for learning and perseverance, I hope to inspire my students to become confident, capable, and compassionate learners who are prepared for future challenges.

In conclusion, my philosophy of teaching centers on creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where all students are empowered to succeed academically and personally. Teaching is both a responsibility and a privilege, and I am dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of my students every day.

Principal's Recommendation

Dear Plano ISD Teacher of the Year Selection Committee:

It is with great pride and unwavering confidence that I recommend Megan Greenlee for the Plano ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year. As principal, I have the honor of observing extraordinary educators in action, and Megan exemplifies the very best of our profession. Her colleagues nominated her for this recognition, and it is easy to see why. Her daily contributions strengthen not only her classroom but our entire school community.

Megan currently teaches 4th grade Reading/Language Arts, and Social Studies, and she approaches every day with a passion that is both inspiring and impactful. Her strengths are evident the moment you step into her classroom. She maintains a genuinely positive attitude, even when faced with challenges, and models a growth mindset for her students and peers. She embraces new learning with enthusiasm and is always eager to bring fresh, innovative approaches into her lessons. Her curiosity and love for learning are contagious, which in turn fosters that same excitement in her students.

Her colleagues describe Megan's presence and influence best. One noted, "Megan's energy is contagious, and she lifts the spirits of staff and students any chance she gets." Another shared, "Megan has had a consistently positive attitude while she quietly leads at our school. She always has professional conversations, and I love working with someone who has such a great attitude. She makes our school a better place every day." Time and time again, she sets the tone for professionalism, optimism, and collaboration.

Instructionally, Megan exemplifies excellence. As one colleague stated, "She consistently models engaging, student-centered instruction by infusing humor and enthusiasm into every lesson, inspiring others to elevate their own practice." Her ability to keep students engaged through fun, creative techniques reflects both her expertise and her dedication to ensuring all learners grow. Whether she is integrating movement, humor, cooperative learning, or inquiry-driven activities, her classroom is a place where students feel valued, motivated, and deeply connected to their learning.

Megan also leads by example, uplifting others through her professionalism, collaboration, and genuine care for our school community. She supports campus initiatives, steps into leadership roles naturally, and builds strong relationships with students, families, and staff. Her passion for teaching is evident in everything she does, and her influence extends far beyond the four walls of her classroom. She represents the heart of our profession: dedication, joy, integrity, and continuous improvement.

For all these reasons, I wholeheartedly believe Megan Greenlee embodies the spirit, values, and excellence deserving of the Plano ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year. She would represent our district with distinction and inspire educators across the district just as she inspires us every day. Thank you for your consideration of this exceptional educator.
