Teaching Philosophy

As a dedicated educator with 18 years of experience, my goal is to inspire my students to love learning. I believe every student can learn successfully when I discover their interests and individual learning styles. I provide interesting lessons and engaging activities to motivate my students. To accomplish this, I make strong connections with them. We become a classroom family when we laugh together as we share personal experiences. I believe students will perform their best when they are comfortable in our classroom and they feel that I care about them.

To enrich my teaching, I participate in other roles such as a Science Fair Coordinator and a district Social Studies curriculum writer. Both roles have helped me to learn our curriculum and the district's expectations more in depth, which allows me to adapt my lessons when students face difficulties and also provide enrichment activities. I frequently reflect on my teaching and analyze my students' assessment data to learn which strategies are effective. With this experience, I am able to teach my students with confidence and share my passion for each subject area.

As a lifelong learner, I encourage my students' love for learning by promoting their curiosity. This is especially reflected in my Math Rocks class during our higher-level math discussions. They are enthusiastic and we have fun working through the rigorous curriculum. In all subject areas, I provide choice boards and project-based activities to give students the opportunity to pick topics or presentation mediums to motivate them to enjoy learning. Having authority over their educational activities allows my students to find their interests and passions and sets them on the path to love learning.

I also believe it is important to encourage my students' interests beyond the classroom. I have been a coach for our school's First Lego League Robotics Team for three years. I observe and encourage the exciting collaboration of my students as they learn to code a robot to complete challenges, research a real-world problem and create a presentation to share their solution. During competitions, I motivate the team to use their learned skills even when dealing with frustrations. I have enjoyed making strong connections with my team that have extended into our classroom.

I volunteer in other opportunities to improve the learning environment for my students. As a member of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support team, I collaborate with our administration and fellow educators to research our management needs and develop school-wide expectations. I also create presentations to promote positive student support initiatives and effective supervision techniques. This year, I joined our Counselor Advisory Committee, where we ensure our counseling program reflects the needs of our students. These opportunities strengthen my understanding of classroom management and positive student interaction techniques that I incorporate into my everyday interactions with my students.

I am excited to be my school's Public Relations Liaison, where I enjoy sharing students' accomplishments through social media and on our inhouse scrolling signage. I connect with students and our community as I create social media content to share their experiences in and out of the classroom. Students are proud to share their accomplishments with me and this engagement has helped me to build relationships with students across all grade levels.

As a team leader and natural problem solver, my first instinct is to help and support others when needed. I believe all students benefit when their teachers work as a cohesive team and support all the students' learning in their grade level, not just their own classroom. I have a wealth of experience to share with my fellow educators, including classroom management strategies, lesson planning support and student engagement ideas. I look forward to learning from both new and experienced teachers.

Overall, I wake up everyday and I know in my heart I am doing exactly what I am meant to do. I share my love for learning with my students every day and together we create a positive learning environment to allow them to pursue their own love of learning.
